Footwork

The quarterback footwork needs to be taught properly to get the full benefit of the wing-T attack.  Once the footwork is taught we drill each and every day until it becomes second nature to the player.  We do this with a couple of drills - notably - QB footwork drill on sideline, Handoff drill with one back,  the pitch drill with Tailback and Halfback and then finally in full backfield technique.  These drills will be covered at the end of this footwork section.

We begin drilling this in Quarterback individual footwork period.  This drill takes place on the sideline with quarterbacks facing the teams bench just in bounds using the 5 yard stripes as the midline and the out of bounds line as the line of scrimmage.  We do not have centers there as a general rule so we make sure the Quarterback's are about 1 and 1/3 yards back from the out of bounds line to keep the timing as it would be in the game.

I will discuss the techniques of the Core Wing-T in this section.  In subsequent sub sections I will discuss other wing-T plays as well as the off shoot offenses like jet and rocket.

We begin with the Buck Sweep which is the most used and the most technique oriented of all the footworks.
